Doctors and hospitals
We check the providers and facilities important to you against the plan’s current network.
This overview is a starting point. Eligibility, timing, plan availability, networks, formularies, and costs should be checked for your individual situation.
Part A generally covers inpatient hospital care, while Part B generally covers physician and outpatient services. Original Medicare lets you see providers nationwide who accept Medicare, but it does not include a yearly out-of-pocket maximum.
Medicare Supplement insurance helps pay certain cost-sharing left by Original Medicare. Plans are standardized by letter, but premiums and underwriting rules can vary. Prescription drug coverage is not included, so a separate Part D plan may be needed.
Part D plans cover outpatient prescription drugs. Premiums, deductibles, formularies, pharmacy networks, and total annual costs vary. Reviewing your medications each year can be important.
Medicare Advantage plans provide Part A and Part B benefits through a private insurer. Many include Part D and additional benefits. Provider networks, referrals, copays, prior authorization, service areas, and maximum out-of-pocket limits deserve careful review.
